CYD’s Environment and Climate Change Management Strategy is “to inspire and empower young people to take action to promote the prosperity and wellbeing of our communities by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change, and to enable individual youth and youth organizations to tackle and adapt to climate change”.
The climate is changing and it is more important than ever that we act, locally, nationally and internationally, to reduce the causes and adapt to the effects. Centre for Youth and Development adopts this strategy to guide its work and offers it as a framework for our programming. Tackling climate change will safeguard our community. Climate change means we can expect hotter and drier summers, warmer and wetter winters, and an increased frequency of extreme weather.
Although climate change presents a significant challenge, taking action will also provide opportunities. Government, business and individuals all have a part to play and all of us can benefit. Addressing climate change means lower fuel bills – we can all save money by being more energy efficient. Addressing climate change also means services and businesses being better prepared for extremes of weather. Addressing climate change now is vital if we are to minimize the costs and maximize the opportunities.
